DJ REGAL

After starting his djaying in 1986, Regal began playing in clubs in 1990, including the Mud Club in London and various wharehouse parties. He started producing Hip Hop with partner DJ Touche in 1989 and began 'The Wiseguys' officially in 1994, with their first release - "The Real Vibes" – for Blackmarket records. Signed to Wall of Sound later that year, over the next couple of years they released 3 more singles and the acclaimed debut LP "Executive Suite" in 1996.

After touring Australia in early 1997, Regal left The Wiseguys to form 'Bronx Dogs' with London DJ partner, Richard Sen. Between 1996 & '98, Paul & Richard ran 2 monthly nights in London, "The Fun Gallery" at The Clinic in Soho and "Disgracelands" in North London, mixing up Hip Hop, Funk, Disco, House and Drum'n'Bass to a pretty riotous crowd. During this time they began their collaborations in the studio, deciding on something new...

Bronx Dogs released The classic B-Boy anthem, "Tribute To Jazzy Jay" in Dec'97 and went on to release 2 more club classics - "212(The Weya Funk)" / "Mixed Blood (Mambo roc')". They also released 2 albums, "Three Legged Funk" in 2000 (Heavenly Records) and "Enviro" 2001 (Marble Bar Records).

In 1998 DJ Regal launched his record label, 'Marble Bar', putting out Bronx Dogs and others, over a span of 15 12" singles and 7 albums in 3 years, concentrating on funky Hip Hop n Dancefloor tracks. Marble Bar also became  the first UK label to specifically release Australian dance music (after a 3-month trip of discovery by Regal), by putting out the UK 12" debut of the
mighty Resin Dogs and a compilation of Aussie Hip Hop & Breaks called "The Burning Issue" (2001). (The label is currently on the QT)

From summer 1999 until end of 2001, Bronx Dogs also ran a monthly night in Brixton at the cult venue, The Dogstar, taking on the punters with 6hr sets and they regularly guested at the famous 'Heavenly Social' club, in the heart of London. In this period, Bronx Dogs also remixed the likes of The Jungle Brothers, Sugarhill Gang, St. Etienne, Primal Scream, Sizzla, and Wamdue Project to name but a few...creating their deep and funky club sounds from the artists' original tapes.

In early 2002, after touring with the Australian 'Vibes On A Summers Day' festival & settling in Oz, Regal remixed the ARIA award-winning single "Karma" by Melbourne's 1200 Techniques. Regal also collaborated with Melbourne's legendary DJ Ransom on a B-Boy track - "Do the Do(2002)" (Hydrofunk Rec's). Later that year Bronx Dogs also returned with their final single, a cover of "Can't be Funky" by New York's Bush Tetras (1981) – a punk influenced vocal disco track - still currently available on Illicit Records, UK (Wire Magazine credited this as one of their top ten 'covers' of 2002).

Regal has also been spinning alongside Aussie DJ partner Liz Ether, as 'Play For Real Productions' since Jan 2002, playing a more eclectic range of House, Disco, Boogie, Nu-Jazz and Funky Broken beats, culminating in 'Play For Rea'l featuring at the 'Splendor in the Grass' festival (2003) in Byron Bay and supporting DJ Spinna at the Gaelic Club later that same year.

2003 also saw Regal make his full mark on the Sydney club scene, DJaying at the Melting Pot, Funk Inc, Get Down, Alphabetics, and Funktrust parties, plus supporting the Herbaliser and Mark Rae, both at the Metro and supporting DJ Pogo at the Gaelic Club. Regal's hectic '03/04 'holiday', included supporting Dynamo Prod's on NYE.

Kicking off 2004, Regal supported Afrika Bambaataa @ Space (a set he recorded live onto CD), Blackalicious at the Metro and began a weekly Sat night residency at the Loft, (Sydney Harbour) playing his more downbeat & nu-jazz selections, a spot he held every week from Feb to Oct '04. Also in 2004, Regal guested alongside Ugly Duckling, Mark Rae, Kool Herc, DJ Zeph, Mista Sinista, Keb Darge, The Bamboos & DJ Krush (with live vocals by Lizzie Rendall).

In July '04 Regal began his long-term residency at Sydney's massive "Boogie Down" night (at Candy's Apartment). This night proved Regal's abilities to rock the house to the absolute max, with dynamite 2hr sets that not only encompassed Hip Hop n Funk, but Nu-Soul, B-Boy Breaks and Disco. From this night, Regal won 3-D magazine's (50,000+ copies per wk, Sydney & Melbourne) Hip Hop DJ of the year award for 2004.

In March 2005, Regal took his honed Funk set to Cockatoo Island (Sydeny Harbour) for their inaugaural 3-day festival and promptly destroyed the Funktrust stage with a bullet set of pure live Funk (new, old and unreleased), which had everyone gettin' down! After Boogie Down's first birthday, featuring Peanut Butter Wolf, Regal supported Lyrics Born & Roots Manuva, both at the Metro, Sydney - and 'Play For Real' supported the hot, international Nu-Jazz act, Domu, at the Civic. In this time, Regal had his first solo track released, "Rock the Funky Beat", on the Australian comp, "Evolutionary Vibes" Vol 6 (thru' Creative Vibes). This followed on from his popular remix of the Aussie band The Camels, of their single "Summertime", which was a A rotation single on Triple J National radio.

And now, so far in 2006, Regal has supported Boca 45 & Katalyst at the Sydney Festival, Hermitude, Australia's finest Hip Hop/Electronic outfit at their Sydney album launch, the Good Vibrations festival (James Brown headlining), The Nextmen & Sharon Jones' Sydney shows & Ninja Tune's dj DK (host of their Solid Steel Radio show in the UK) at Dustones - Sydney's best underground night, dedicated to deep n funky leftfield Hip Hop, Dub, Breaks, Nu-Soul & Funk, of which Regal has joined as part of the crew.  Also, while recently in the UK, Regal performed at The End in London for the 'Nice Up' monthly party & then rocked the house down across in Devon, in the funky resort town of Woollocombe.

Now back in Sydney, Regal has just finished remixing All Good Funk Alliance, having recently completed recording his debut solo album back in May & is now starting on his 2nd solo album tracks as i write - no slowing down for this old dog! Most recently Regal has been nominated for Best DJ in the national inaugral Australian Dance Music Awards and has made the final four .

Regal also hosts his own weekly radio show, "The Musiquarium", on Bondi Fm, spinning Soul, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, Latin, Electronica, Leftfield  and other goodies, from 2-4pmevery Friday. This show is available to listen to, worldwide via the web(www.bondifm.com )

Regal’s debut album LOOP DREAMS is set to be released worldwide through UNIQUE RECORDS in march/april 2007.
