2008 is the year that Dr. Rubberfunk joined the Jalapeno family and brought his live drumming, funk breaking, party slaying, cutting & scratching, irrepressible good time shit to the j-funk party. Having been pestered by the label since the release of his debut he finally agreed to take a break from his own GPS recordings label and see what life would be like standing under the Jalapeno umbrella.

Having been DJing since the 90's, and releasing music since 2001, Dr Rubberfunk’s first long player ‘The First Cut’ finally dropped in early 2004. It was an instant hit with DJs and reviewers worldwide, winning critical acclaim from Time Out, The Sunday Telegraph, IDJ, Straight No Chaser, Mixmag, Update and Future Music. Over its 12 tracks Rubberfunk fused jazz, blues, soul, hip-hop and Latin flavours into a veritable smorgasbord of aural delights. In the clubs it proved irresistible to the likes of Norman Jay, Mr.Scruff, Strictly Kev, Quantic, Scott Hendy & Andy Smith, Groove Armada, Pete Herbert, Jon Kennedy and Bonobo.

As the LP whipped up a media-frenzy soon everyone wanted a piece of the action. After being interviewed on the station the producers at BBC 6 Music were so enamoured with the good Doctor that they gave him his own weekly mix slot. More DJ excursions across the UK and Europe followed, including a well-received set at Glastonbury. The Doctor also found time to complete a number of remixes and reworks for artists such as The Fort Knox Five and Malente. His live band Mr Güder also made select live appearances including storming sets at Jelly Jazz in Plymouth and London’s famous Jazz Café.

2005 saw Dr Rubberfunk back in the studio to work on his second album “My Life at 33” but still finding time to remix the Stereo MCs, Dutch Rhythm Combo and Bobby Hebb, and jet set across the pond to DJ stateside, showcasing his wares at clubs in New York. Back in the UK his rubberfunkin’ DJ sets tore it up at The Big Chill, Bestival, Bloom and his live sets supporting both Nicole Willis and Bonobo were drawing plenty of attention. Rubberfunk was contacted by The legendary Rock Steady Crew and asked to produce an exclusive mixtape for the Red Bull Beat Battle, which took place in London in April 2007.

2006 saw the release in the UK of the long anticipated second Dr Rubberfunk LP – ‘My Life At 33’. Lauded and loved by such publications as Metro, iDJ, Straight No Chaser, XLR8R, Fact Magazine and One Week To Live, along with DJs as diverse as Smith & Mighty, Yam Who and Laurent Garnier, the album proved itself to be an excellent follow up to ‘The First Cut’.

2007 was a year of heavy touring, working with vocalists and musicians from his band recording material for his third album and by the end of the year striking a deal with Jalapeno to release it. The first fruits of that labour (Sunset Breakup EP) are due out on jalapeno in March 08 with the album scheduled for the summer.

One of the leading figures in pushing the funky side of breaks that we love, the doctor is now on his third album and while taking a break from his own GPS label, has been persuaded to join the J-Funk Family.

This EP gives a taste of what we can expect from his forthcoming album.

B-Boy drops, crisp brass, soaring strings and low slung funk dominate the A side with these two tracks fully supported by the Rocksteady Crew and used at the recent Redbull Beat Battle B-Boy showdown in London.

On the flip the doctor shows what he can do with a song by performing open-hat surgery on this beautiful vocal performed by dutch diva Sitzka. He finishes off with the title track, a harp plucking masterpiece of synapse tingling electronica with heavy drums, a rolling bassline and strings from heaven. Before the term was bastardized this would have been a Balearic bomb of life-changing proportions.
