German DJ and producer MALENTE has released a total of four albums on Unique Records since the year 1999. The origin of his name „Malente“ is based on the fact that he was born in a small town in northern Germany, which is called Malente (since this question is frequently posed...).

The Music: After his first 12" „Fertig“, Malente´s debut album „The Spirit Of Malente“ is released in 2000, including the unforgettable „I Sell Marihuana“. Combinig organic 70s funk with electronic sounds, the second album „No Risk No Funk“ (2002) earned even more respect and positive reactions. Four tracks from this LP breezed through to single-releases! The Video of „We Came To Party“ was broadcasted by MTV and by the German music-channel VIVA.

 

Since 2004 Malente got more and more into dirty electro. Malente releases his works now on Unique Records AND Moonbootique Records, the label of DJ team Moonbootica. Following the Moston & Malente single „In The Sky“, Moonbootique over the years release  „Washington“, „Crowdrock/Tight With You“, „Hot Daddy" and "Killer Applikation".

 

„Rip It Up“ (2005), Malente's third album, features three new tracks and 10 remixes, whereof 8 were exclusively created for this album. By chosing remixers he became friends with over the years, this album shows his path from organic funk to kranky electro madness. At the End of 2005, Malente releases the first 12“ „Like A Freek“ from his follow-up album. This piece of vinyl immediately enters the top 10 of the DCC and held its place for seven weeks. Malente since 2006 also releases on Luscious Sounds, the label of Azzido Da Bass: Malente pres. ManroX Theme From Manrox“, and Splank! in the UK: Moston & Malente „The 2 & Only“, embraced by English mags from I:DJ to Mixmag! Also his first DJ-Mix CD is put out 2006: „Top Of The Clubs Vol.30“ (Kontor). The second single from the „How Can You Still Stand To Stand Still“ album, again a big seller named „For The Revolution“, is followed by the release of that album in late 2006. An LP musically one step forward; moving from breaks, heading into digital dirty rockin' electro stuff.

 

2007 Malente starts off with two 12"es in the top ten of German Cluhb Charts at the same time! „Killer Applikation" (peak #2) and „Open Secret" (same time #1 in www.juno.com breaks salescharts). Can i get any better? It can. What wasn't mentioned before is that Malente loves Remixing for other Artists. Over the years he reworked tunes by Louie Austen, Mason, Bob Sinclar, Thomilla, Groove Rebels, DJ Friction, The Strike Boys and about thirty more. So later this year there's gonna be a CD-Compilation of the best remixes by Malente from 1999 till today, also containing exclusive previously unreleased remixes. As if this was not enough there will come a brand new Malente DJ-Mix CD with it!!

 

Sounds busy? Well, producing is not his only passion. He's got his own radioshow on 1 Live, German statesradio and loves his DJ gigs. Malente plays not only in Germany, but worldwide. Solely in 2006, he travelled the USA, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Bali, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Spain and other countries. When Malente is playing one of his outstanding DJ-sets, PARTY is to be expected and no puristic bullshit.

 

The Malente-sound is not simply ElectroHouse. It is loud & dirty, cut up & tweaked up pumping Electro with a rockin’ & funky feel - and this on the basis of that typically positive Malente-Vibe! No doubt it’s easier and better to listen to that than to couch in terms.

Seit dem Jahr 2000 hat der deutsche DJ und Produzent MALENTE nun vier Alben auf dem Düsseldorfer Label Unique Records veröffentlicht. Malente heisst Malente, weil er in einer Stadt namens Malente in Deutschlands Norden geboren wurde (naja – weil immer gefragt wird).
Zur Musik: nach einer ersten 12“ erscheint 2000 das Debut „The Spirit of Malente“ mit dem unvergesslichen „I Sell Marihuana“. Das zweite Album "No Risk No Funk" (2003) kommt noch besser an. Es werden 4 Singles von selbigem Album veröffentlicht! Das Video für „We Came to Party" lief bei MTV in den „Dancefloorcharts“ und in den „Dancevotecharts“ bei VIVA Plus.

Von 2004 veröffentlicht Malente parallell und sehr erfolgreich bei Moonbootique Records, dem Label von Moonbootica. Nach Moston & Malente’s "In the Sky", das auch als Video auf  MTV und VIVA läuft, wird dort mit "Washington" and “Crowdrock/Tight With You” weiteres Clubfutter released. Alle Tunes sind weit oben in den DCC, den Deustchen Club Charts, zu finden. Positionstechnisch getoppt werden sie nur von „Dancefloor Whore/What You Got“, der Auskopplung zur 2005er CD „Rip It Up“, dem dritten Malente Album auf Unique Records. Dort schmiegen drei neue Malente Tracks an 10 Remixe von denen 8 exklusiv für „Rip it Up“ angefertigt wurden.

Ende 2005 veröffentlicht MALENTE die erste 12” “Like A Freek” seines im August 2006 erscheinenden neuen Albums “How Can You Still Stand To Stand Still”. Diese entert sofort die Top 10 der DCC, und bleibt dort für sieben Wochen. Zudem schafft sie es auf Platz 1 des in den UK ansässigen Breakbeat Mailroder www.streetwisemusic.com
Malente’s Jahr 2006 begann im Februar mit “Hot Daddy”, einer neuen 12” auf Moonbootique. Ende März gefolgt von Malente pres. ManroX “Theme from Manrox” mit drei neuen Tracks auf Luscious Sounds (dem Label von Azzido Da Bass). Damit nicht genug erscheint im Mai „The 2 & Only“ von Moston & Malente auf Splank! Records UK und überzeugt die englischen Mags von I:DJ bis Mixmag! Auch gerade im Laden angekommmen: Die Mix-CD “Top Of The Clubs Vol.30” (Kontor), inklusive eines 40 Minuten Sets von Moston & Malente. Da fehlt nur noch die zweite Auskopplung aus dem neuen Album, welche uns im Juni erwartet. Der Name des Tracks: „For The Revolution“. Remixe liefern Mason (Great Stuff/Middle Of The Road [NL], Smoove (Acid Jazz/Wack! [UK]) und der Ex-BronxDog / Ex-Wiseguy (Mister Ohlala) DJ Regal [AUS].

Wie fesselnd Malentes kompromissloser ElectroFunk-Style ankommt sieht man u.a. an der langen Liste seiner Remixe für u.a. Louie Austen, DJ Friction, Groove Rebels, Thomilla, Bob Sinclar, Der Plan, Monosourround, Rocko Schamoni, Le Hammond Inferno u.a. oder an den unzähligen DJ Gigs weltweit. So war der Herr letztes Jahr in Australien, USA, Kanada, Thailand, Russland, Spanien, Griechenland, Frankreich, Belgien, Holland, Schweiz, Österreich etc. unterwegs. In sehr vielen deutschen Clubs und auf diversen Festivals ist Malente eh ein Garant für extrem rockende Sets. Wenn er auflegt gibt es Party und keinen puristischen Einheitsbrei.

Der Malente-Sound ist nicht einfach ElectroHouse - Malente zaubert bassgesteuerte, pumpende, rockende Electro-Stomper mit viel Funk. Und all das auf der Basis des positiven Malente-Vibes. Keine Frage: Es ist leichter sich das anzuhören, als es in Worte zu fassen.
