Mediengruppe Telekommander
Mute
Mediengruppe Telekommander started in early 2001. The members met in 1998 on their way to Berlin and soon discovered their similar taste in music. Soon after, they began programming electronic music together. In the winter of 2001 the band found themselves in an apartment in Vienna recording what would become the first MTK-song ever: Was ganz Feines. Within the next few months the band finished a couple of more songs and developed their unique melange of electronics, fast bass runs, weird guitars and sprechgesang. Hamburgs indie label Enduro soon pricked up their ears, releasing their debut EP in 2002. Things began to happen fast and furiously: intense touring, initial press reactions, and a follow-up EP in 2003.
In 2004 the band moved on and signed a contract with Mute Records for the release of their first album “Die ganze Kraft einer Kultur”. After some intense touring over the following month the band began recording their second and more old school influenced album “Näher am Menschen” in 2006. Working with Berlin-based producers Moses Schneider and Ben Lauber (Transporterraum) and mixed by Viennese electronic artist/producer Gerhard Potuznik as well as Sebi Hackert and Andreas “Boogieman” Herbig. Between 2006 and 2008 Mediengruppe Telekommander was mainly playing live. They did clubshows and festivals as well as DJ-Sets in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Holland, Denmark, Spain, Russia and China.
In 2008 the band starts writing new songs for their third album and produces a mix of electro, punk, noiserock and kraut. This time recording with longtime live mixing-engineer Udo Böckmann and new live-drummer Nico Friedrich. The final mix was done by London-based producer Robert Harder. “Einer muss in Führung gehen” will be released 28, August 2009 on Berlin indie label Staatsakt.
